Open Court is a free tool for running casual tennis and pickleball brackets. This policy explains what information we collect when you use it, why we collect it, and what your options are.
Information we collect
Account information. If you sign in with an email code, we collect the email address you provide. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from Google. We use this only to identify your account and let you manage tournaments across sessions and devices.
Guest play. You can join a tournament as a guest without creating an account or providing an email address. We create a temporary, anonymous session so the app can remember which entrant is you.
Tournament content. Tournament names, entrant and player display names, match scores, and court assignments that you or other participants enter into a tournament. This content is visible to anyone with the tournament’s share link.
Technical information. Our hosting and infrastructure providers automatically log standard technical data (such as IP address, browser type, and timestamps) as part of running the service and keeping it secure.
How we use this information
- To create and operate your account and guest sessions.
- To run tournaments: generate brackets, track scores, and resolve disputes.
- To keep a history of tournaments you’ve played or organized.
- To secure sign-in (for example, using a bot-detection challenge on the sign-in form).
- To diagnose bugs and keep the service reliable.
We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Who we share it with
We share information only with the service providers that help us run Open Court, and only as needed to provide the service:
- Supabase, for account authentication and our database.
- Vercel and Render, for hosting the website and API.
- Cloudflare Turnstile, to tell humans apart from bots when requesting a sign-in code.
- Google, if you choose to sign in with a Google account.
These providers process information on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes. We may also disclose information if required by law.
Cookies and local storage
Open Court stores your sign-in session in your browser so you stay signed in between visits. We don’t use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Data retention and deletion
We keep account and tournament data for as long as your account is active. You can ask us to delete your account and associated personal information at any time by contacting us below. Tournament results that other participants rely on may be retained in an anonymized form.
Children’s privacy
Open Court is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we’ll update the date at the top of this page.
